Housing is not a privilege. It is a right.

Citizens' Assembly for the Right to Housing in Lanzarote. From 5 to 12 October 2026 we were in Arrecife's Parque José Ramírez Cerdá day and night, in a peaceful protest open to everyone. We are not leaving: we are multiplying.

What this is

We are neighbours from all over the island: teachers, health workers, lawyers, shopkeepers, artists, young people, pensioners and families who cannot find a home or are about to lose one. We are not a party and we depend on nobody: the Assembly is citizen-led, non-partisan, autonomous, horizontal, active and peaceful. Decisions are taken in open assembly and recorded in public minutes.

After a rally, a march and two assemblies, on 5 October 2026 we pitched our tents under one of César Manrique's pergolas in the Parque José Ramírez Cerdá, next to the bandstand and the Castillo de San Gabriel. It is not a leisure camp: it is a permanent peaceful gathering protected by article 21 of the Spanish Constitution, and it is also a place where anyone with a housing problem can come and be heard.

We ask for what should be normal: affordable rents, help for those threatened with eviction, decent alternatives for people in vulnerable situations, institutions that sit down and talk, and respect for the right to gather and protest. In the meantime, we organise.

How we organise

People sitting in a circle under the camp's marquee

La Casa de Todas

The group that keeps the space in the park going: welcome, care, shifts, food, cleaning, information for passers-by and the sorting of everything people bring.

Comunicación Vivienda Lanzarote

Tells what is happening, makes the materials, deals with the press and documents the process so the memory of what we are doing is not lost.

Sindicato de Inquilinas de Lanzarote

The tenants' union: it supports anyone with a rental problem or an eviction threat, works out what each institution is responsible for and prepares what is taken to the council sessions.
